BEST OF (NEW/NEW SEASON) TV SERIES:

HULU

DEVS already wrapped up, all 8 episodes is the entire series. DAVE had its first run, all of Season 1 is available. Dave is more light-hearted comedy, where as DEVS is Alex Garland (Ex Machina) at his finest. Thought-provoking, smart, commentary on the Tech World.

AMAZON

UPLOAD wrapped up it's first season. It's a more light-hearted commentary on the tech world, simulation and such. Made by the creators of The Office, Parks and Rec. I found it entertaining, but it only goes so deep. The Last Drive-In is in it's 2nd Season, this is a SHUDDER Exclusive on Amazon. Watch OLD CLASSIC 80s-90s Horror Films, with commentary in breaks and special guest. (For horror Cinephiles).

NETFLIX

A weird whacky show where not too much ever really happens, but it's inventive. Hats off to Duncan for this creative deal. He somehow combined tidbits from various podcast and put them into conversations between characters in dying simulated realities. Total stoner, tripper, spiritual, out-there thing. The episode with Damien Echols is by far my favorite - as well, I'm a huge fan of Damien and all he does.

BEST OF MOVIES AVAILABLE ON THE PLATFORM:

HULU

Hail Satan? , Portrait of Lady on Fire, and Parasite all came out within the last year. Parasite of course was the main Oscar winner, so everyone should know of that by now.

VICE, Sorry To Bother You, A Quiet Place, and Art of Self Defense came out within the last decade or so and they are all great films (that I highly recommend, in case any snuck by).

**ALSO ON HULU (Classic Older Films/Worth Revisiting): Demolition Man, Batman Begins, Goodfellas, Annihilation, Zombieland, Blazing Saddles, and The Green Mile**

AMAZON

Honey Boy and The LightHouse both came out in 2019. These are slower paced films, and not for everyone. Starting to get into the DEEP CUTS list. *FILMS TO RENT: The Gentlemen, Uncut Gems, Jojo Rabbit, 1917, Knives Out, Ford v Ferarri

**OLDER FILMS WORTH REVISTING: Cabin in the Woods, Boondock Saints, Escape New York, The Descent, The Ninth Gate, Cable Guy, Wave of the Gun, Hellraiser, Ghost in Shell, The Doors, Annihilation, Zombieland, Rosemary's Baby, Super 8, American Ultra, Apocalypto, and Midsummer. GET SHUDDER ON AMAZON for OLD HORROR films, as well as international/psychological horror (Night of the Living Dead, Re-Animator, Society, Dogtooth, Texas Chainsaw, etc etc etc.

Yogos Lanthimos (is a name you will all know like Tarantino in the future, I swear this will be a household name and the only reason most people don't know of him yet is that he did a lot of non-english films). Anyways, a couple his first English films: The Killing of a Sacred Deer and The Lobster are among my favorites and back on Netflix. (Dogtooth is another film of his, on Amazon). The Platform was a pretty great commentary on capitalism, but not for everyone and Have a Good Trip is just a laugh riot, kind of tripper. Again, these are the deep cuts. **CLASSIC FILMS BACK ON NETFLIX: Inglorious Basterds, Taxi Driver, Minority Report, There Will be Blood, The VVitch, District 9, King Fu Hustle, Fun with Dick & Jane, Inception, Ex Machina, The Last Samurai, Silver Linings Playbook, Train to Busan, Underworld, The Wickerman, and Public Enemies**

I already uploaded a Pandemic list this month, but here is all the other entertainment I was ingesting (yes it's a lot, yes all of it was consumed this month - perk of being home and quarantined). Why so much Edgar Allan Poe..? By the end of April you shall find out - BIG SURPRISE coming.

In honor of COVID-19 here's a list of Pandemic films & Shaun of the Dead (for humor purposes). Contagion is considered the most scientifically accurate (for a film/fiction). Outbreak is one of the OGs, but it's definitely got some great examples of what not to do / how not to handle the situation. Speaking of WHAT NOT TO DO.. The Crazies is a great one to remind us that sometimes the biggest threat is really the damn people.. 28 Days Later too. Last but not least we have The Stand. I much rather prefer the book, but this was the highest rated version of the show. HOPEFULLY the show covers some of the cool politics and stuff about them rebuilding society after a Pandemic (that was my favorite part about Stephen King's The Stand). WHERE TO WATCH: Outbreak is on Netflix (US Region) | Contagion is available for Max & Cinemax Subs otherwise rent from any streaming service | The Stand is available on VUDU | The Crazies is available via DirectTV or there are AD versions free for Roku people | Shaun of the Dead is available for STARZ subs, or rent | 28 Days Later is available on HULU & STARZ So for this weekend curl up with a friend, stay safe and enjoy this segment aptly named Netflix & Panic. Oh yeah.. And since today is Friday the 13th, feel free to give Vorhees some love.

Happy Friday the 13th! (and stop hoarding toilet paper)
